The Buick that Caused the Invention of the Mansfield Bar
Jayne Mansfield was a Hollywood star, actress, singer, and much more. She was headed to New Orleans in a 1966 Buick Electra 225 with 3 of her children and two of her friends. West of the Rigolets Bridge, The Buick crashed at high speed into the rear of a tractor-trailer. The impact caused Mansfield's head to decapitate immediately and die.
Since her tragic death, the National Highway Traffic safety administration required an underride guard on all tractor-trailers, naming it the Mansfield bar. The car was saved by a private collector and is currently displayed in the Dearly Departed Tours and Artifact Museum.
